Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, accompanied by Princess Ubolratana, presided over the annual silk festival at Phuphan Palace. Diplomats, Thai and international designers, plus local people from Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin and Nakhon Phanom provinces welcomed HM the Queen at the festival, which seeks to promote Thai silk in international markets. Leading Australian designer Liz Davenport and top Thai designers showcased their collections made from Thai silk. The local designers said they were drawn to the beauty of Thai silk. Tirapan, who uses interplay of colors in his designs, said his theme ‘Pa Rak Nam’ (‘Forest Love Water’) was inspired by the Queen’s concern for nature. Thai designers – including Pichita, Nakara, and Tirapan Wannarat – came up with more than 80 elegant designs, made by Bangsai Arts and Crafts Center.
